GOVERNMENT'S NEGLIGENCE AND IN-ACTIONS CLAIMING LIVES AND PROPERTIES - BY KOJO SARFO TP (CRITICAL THINKERS)

Governments are expected to be proactive and agile in addressing  development issues that curtail growth and nation building.
Likewise, the gross ineptitude and short sightedness of the Mahama led administration has trickled to the extent of  loss of innocent lives and destruction of hard earned properties.
On a faithful Tuesday, 7th November 2012,  the negligence of this government to ensure that proper building standards and procedures are followed led to the collapsed of Achimota Melcom. This tragic disaster claimed 14 lives, got 78 people injured and destroyed GHC 5m worth of goods. As usual, this government hurriedly formed a committee to delve into the matter however none of the findings has been implemented yet.
Moreover, 2013 NADMO report revealed that 478 incidences of fire disaster occurred nationwide including markets. With this, 15 fatalities were recorded and properties lost amounted to over GHC 15m. In a camouflage attempt to address the issue, government imported 7 US fire and light experts to investigate into the matter yet it yielded no proper outcome.
In 2014, the then National Coordinator of NADMO, Mr Kofi Portuphy, in his statement for a Disaster Fund opined that "there are 31 flood points in Accra". He further mentioned that these floods caused by buildings in waterways which prevent free flow of rain water, inadequate drains and absence of drain cleansing. So government was abreast of this issue and out of negligence never acted until a tragedy befell on the country.
On 3rd June 2015, over 127 people lost their lives when the Goil Filling Station at Circle exploded amidst flooding. Here, goods, vehicles, houses were burnt not to talk of burnt bodies carried away by the running water. Come see human beings packed in KIA cargo trucks. In fact, the scene was so gory to behold and an eyesore. No wonder that day is tagged as "Dark Wednesday". This time round, the President came to the scene to give a promise that 'It will never happen again'.
In addition, the country witnessed another collapse of a storey building in Cantoment. The incident which happened on 26/7/15, claimed 2 lives, 7 others critically injured and 10 treated and discharged. So where are the MMDAs to check for safety building regulations. Mr President, your reluctancy and inactions are killing us.
Also, Government's pompous attitude in addressing Doctors issue has led to 500 death tolls. With the government and GMA not ready to go to the negotiation table, the situation is likely to worsen.
Mr President, your inactions recently led to the death of a journalist, Mr Sampson Nuamah, a presidential press corr. News circulating reads, a wretched bus was hired to take the press to and fro Ho on a Presidential duty. Again, you neglected them to fare on their own after taking coverage of the assignment. Total negligence, Mr President!
Mr President,  your inactions and negligence is killing us, so please better sit up!
